[Daphne Reese|16|Sarcastic & Funny]
On ocean of salty tears was now running down her tanned cheeks. At least ten leis strung with every kind of tropical flower hung from her neck and her heart was still back in Hawaii. Maybe she wasn't meant to be anywhere but Hawaii. After all, in all of her 16 years, she'd left the islands only once. But that unforgettable trip was so life-changing, she might not ever need another vacation. She loved the weather and its tremendous natural beauty. Oahu was a Heaven in itself. The people's pace was slow. Probably the only time Daphne rushed was getting to prayer services on Sunday morning.
Sunday mornings... Just the thought of them made a whole new wave of tears stream down. How she loved the time she spent doing nothing but living on those Sundays! Daphne and her two best friends Eva and Karine would walk around their neighborhoods or along the sandy beaches only talking or laughing or joking. They always took skating hats from their older brothers and wore them to the side as they walked. Sometimes Eva would carry along her boombox and they would crank up the tunes from their favorite band The Wallflowers. Daphne especially liked the days went Karina brought her camera and snapped shots of the girls and everywhere in town they went.
Just then, the memories ran to an abrupt halt. Almost like the end of an old projector flim. Daphne was here now in an unfamiliar place with only her friends back home to comfort her (and that was through letter writing). I bet all the kids are spoiled. She confided. Then she dropped all her bags on a free bunk by the window, and headed outside. Her green messanger bag bounced against her leg and the pins she collected and had stuck on the bag jingled and clicked as she walked.
